Per Brevig

Per Brevig PhotoPer Brevig is the Music Director and Conductor of the East Texas Symphony Orchestra. He brings extensive experience as both performer and conductor to the podium. Critical acclaim has earned him an international reputation as a superb conductor and orchestra builder. In addition to his extensive conducting experience, he is a multitalented musician and has performed in all genres of music. As a young musician, he had great success as the leader of Per Brevig’s Big Band and Per Brevig’s Dixieland Band. 

Mr. Brevig received his music training at The Juilliard School and holds a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree. He was active as a freelance musician in New York, performing music from symphony to pops as well as in the orchestras at Radio City Music Hall and Broadway Shows. He was principal trombonist of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra from 1968 to 1994 and has performed as soloists with major orchestras throughout the world. He has an extensive solo discography and is a frequent adjudicator of major competitions. In addition to his position with the East Texas Symphony Orchestra, Mr. Brevig is continuing his teaching affiliations with the Aspen Music Festival, Colorado as well as the music schools of Julliard, Manhattan and Mannes in New York.
